BAE Systems has awarded Simmel Difesa S.p.A. (“Simmel”), the Italian-based subsidiary of Chemring Group PLC (“Chemring”), two contracts for mortar illumination rounds worth a total of €25 million. Simmel was awarded a €19.6 million contract for conventional illumination rounds and a €5.4 million contract for infra-red (IR) illumination rounds. These contracts are follow-on requirements to previous contracts awarded to Simmel in early 2009, worth a total of €17.4 million.

Simmel is exceeding its business targets and now has a very strong order book. These contracts will underpin further growth in our munitions business in 2009 and 2010.”
Simmel Difesa S.p.A. is based in Collefero, Italy and is a leading supplier of naval ammunition, advanced fuzing, modular charge systems and insensitive explosive filling for ammunition and warheads.
