02 May 2008
Chester Township, Pennsylvania - Alloy Surfaces Co., Inc.
(ASC) was awarded a $30 Million Contact from the United States Air
Force for MJU-50/B Infrared Special Material Decoys. This news
comes the same week that Alloy Surfaces announced receiving the
largest IDIQ contract to date. Monday 28 April 2008 Alloy Surfaces
received a five year IDIQ (Indefinite Delivery - Indefinite
Quantity) contract from the United States Army with the
maximum value of $347.9 Million. The IDIQ has a minimum value of
$5.4 Million. The Army immediately awarded the first order valued
at $16.0 Million for M211 Decoys.
This latest award is for MJU-50/B Special Materials Decoys (SMD)
which are used to protect various types of transport and fighter
aircraft in the USAF. All Special Material Decoys provide
dramatically increased protection levels against current and the
latest generation of IR missiles, commonly known as MANPADS.
"Alloy Surfaces fully understands the importance of
these contracts for the Department of Defense" said John
LaFemina President ASC "We recognize and appreciate the
faith that the Services have in our products. Our Team here at ASC
works extremely hard to insure the job is done right, knowing that
our products protect the warfighter."
The USAF will start to receive lots on this contract in the
third quarter of 2008. Production of these decoys will be in
Delaware County, Pennsylvania. ASC's total work force is 600
employees. ASC moved to Delaware County in 1998 with 79
employees.
A subsidiary of Chemring Group PLC, Alloy Surfaces is the
world's largest IR expendable countermeasure manufacturer and the
only producer of Special Material Decoys. ASC's decoys are on
the leading edge of IR countermeasure technology and are currently
being used to protect a wide variety of US and allied military
aircraft. Alloy Surfaces' proprietary decoys have unique
properties of day and night covertness and in-band radiant output
that make them extraordinarily well suited to the modern war
fighting challenge. Capable of fitting into any current or
projected flare form factor, SMDs can be tailored to match aircraft
signatures in missile guidance bands. In addition, SMDs are
extremely safe to use and handle.
