Toone, TN, October, 2006 – The U.S. Air Force awarded Kilgore Flares Company, LLC (“Kilgore”) a $2.26 million contract to supply MJU-53/B infrared (IR) decoy flares. The MJU-53/B design provides enhanced sequenced ignition technology and improved sealing to prevent environmental exposure to internal components, thereby increasing reliability. Although Kilgore has numerous IR decoy flare contracts with the U.S. Government worth close to $80M, this is the first award of this particular IR decoy flare to Kilgore.

The MJU-53/B IR Decoy Flare is used by U.S. military aircraft, most notably the C-17, to provide protection against heat-seeking missiles. The US Air Force has 150 C-17 aircraft in its inventory, and it has provided critical military transport and humanitarian aid around the world’s trouble spots, including Iraq and Afghanistan.

“The MJU-53/B is a new product introduction for Kilgore and exemplifies our ability to apply our automated manufacturing techniques to new decoy flare designs, consistent with our initiative and focus to grow the Kilgore countermeasure product portfolio.” - Bill Heinsohn, President Kilgore Flares Co., LLC
