HS&E
Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) Policy
Chemring Group PLC intends to become the leading producer of expendable countermeasures and energetic materials for the global defence market. Our core strategy states that the development and manufacture of explosive products requires the highest levels of safety and reliability to achieve growth and maintain leadership in the market. Manufacturing and product safety must be one of our highest priorities if we are to be leaders in the field.
Chemring Group PLC believes all injuries are preventable. Our goal is zero. We will put safety first in all areas of business and comply with all relevant HS&E regulations in every country we operate. We aim to continually improve our performance and will continue to reduce risk within the obvious constraints of what is reasonably achievable.
We consider competent staff to be the key to safe operations and shall provide adequate training and development for all employees. All accidents and near misses will be investigated, root causes established, and action taken to prevent recurrence. We will reduce the risk of similar incidents occurring elsewhere by sharing lessons learnt with other companies.
Environmental protection will help to secure the long-term future of our business. We will aim to control pollution, minimise the quantity of material burnt at each site, consume resources efficiently, and use materials that minimise the environmental impact of our operations where practicable. All companies will be certified to ISO14001 environmental management system.
Chemring Group PLC will establish minimum management and control standards for HS&E that apply globally. Companies will systematically manage all HS&E hazards, set objectives, monitor progress by regular measurement, audit and review, and take additional action when necessary. Managing Directors will provide adequate resources to deliver this policy.
Although Managing Directors are responsible and accountable for HS&E within their company we emphasise the importance of individual responsibility for HS&E at all levels of our organisation. We expect managers to enforce procedures and to provide leadership and commitment that promote and embrace a positive HS&E culture. We expect employees to report potential hazards, to be involved in implementing solutions, and to adhere to rules and procedures.
“I believe in a strong HS&E culture that encourages awareness and maintenance of high standards, individual responsibility, and promotes open and constructive criticism so that we can continually improve our practices. We are committed to establishing and fostering such a culture to safeguard the health and safety of people and to protect our environment.”
